Listening…

Is anyone crying for help? God is listening, ready to rescue you. Psalm 34:17 The Message

It is critical when you’re in a tight spot to be listening for the right voice, yes?

We are inundated by hundreds of voices every single day.

So, which voice are you giving your undivided attention to?

In a really tight spot there is only one voice I want to hear from.

The One who is the Alpha and the Omega, the One who knows the End from the Beginning, the One who holds it all together.

The Voice Above…

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him a second time:  “This is what the Lord says, he who made the earth, the Lord who formed it and established it—the Lord is his name:  ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

jeremiah 33:1-3 niv (promise of restoration)

The Voice above all other voices is Jesus Christ. He is the Alpha and the Omega.

He is the One who holds it ALL together.

We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body.

colossians 1:15-18 the message

He is the One who has promised to never leave me–no matter what storm I’m in!

Jesus Speaks…

9 “Are you listening to this? Really listening?”

10-12 When they were off by themselves, those who were close to him, along with the Twelve, asked about the stories. He told them, “You’ve been given insight into God’s kingdom—you know how it works. But to those who can’t see it yet, everything comes in stories, creating readiness, nudging them toward a welcome awakening. These are people—

Whose eyes are open but don’t see a thing,
Whose ears are open but don’t understand a word,
Who avoid making an about-face and getting forgiven.”

13 He continued, “Do you see how this story works? All my stories work this way.

14-15 “The farmer plants the Word. Some people are like the seed that falls on the hardened soil of the road. No sooner do they hear the Word than Satan snatches away what has been planted in them.

16-17 “And some are like the seed that lands in the gravel. When they first hear the Word, they respond with great enthusiasm. But there is such shallow soil of character that when the emotions wear off and some difficulty arrives, there is nothing to show for it.

18-19 “The seed cast in the weeds represents the ones who hear the kingdom news but are overwhelmed with worries about all the things they have to do and all the things they want to get. The stress strangles what they heard, and nothing comes of it.

20 “But the seed planted in the good earth represents those who hear the Word, embrace it, and produce a harvest beyond their wildest dreams.”

Mark 4:9-20 The Message

The concept of a two-way conversation with God is not foreign to Christians, but the actuality of it can be foreign to so many. For most of us, we don’t really believe that we can hear the voice of God. We often think that it is only for the super-spiritual. It’s something we have read about with the saints of old, but we don’t think that we can experience that today.

The Will of God & Storms

It’s been my experience that God speaks in moments of desperation. It’s in a place of desperation that we surrender our lives to God’s plan, relinquish control, and position ourselves to truly hear from Him. When we let go, we allow God to take control.

Late that day he said to them, “Let’s go across to the other side.” They took him in the boat as he was. Other boats came along. A huge storm came up. Waves poured into the boat, threatening to sink it. And Jesus was in the stern, head on a pillow, sleeping! They roused him, saying, “Teacher, is it nothing to you that we’re going down?” Awake now, he told the wind to pipe down and said to the sea, “Quiet! Settle down!” The wind ran out of breath; the sea became smooth as glass. Jesus reprimanded the disciples: “Why are you such cowards? Don’t you have any faith at all?” They were in absolute awe, staggered. “Who is this, anyway?” they asked. “Wind and sea at his beck and call!”

In this new year…

Some would say that God no longer speaks to his people, but the Bible says. “For I am the Lord, I change not.” If God spoke then, He will speak now to us.

Let us keep listening…

  • For heaven’s Voice first
  • For the Holy Spirit’s flawless guidance
  • For the comfort God’s Eternal Word provides

With all of that? How shall it not be, entirely well, with our souls?

May this year of 2022 hold many, many, blessings for you! May it truly be a year of restoration and multiplication as you continue to seek God first.
