Settling For Half A Promise

Taking less than God’s best. Settling for half of all that is promised to you. Is that what you’re doing?

I think many of us will follow Jesus Christ—up to a point.

We will follow… but, or if, or as long as I can

What?

Where is the point where you decided that half a promise is okay?

When did you decide getting into heaven will be enough?

Are you a Following or a Settling Disciple?

I love the story of Caleb in the Bible. Here is a guy who did everything right, followed hard after the things of God, but still he ends up wandering in the wilderness for forty years with the children of Israel—because of their unbelief!

A faithful follower sentenced to forty years with a bunch of carping, complaining unbelievers, until they all die off!

Dang! That doesn’t sound right, does it?

BUT… HOLD ON TO YOUR HOPE…

When he finally gets to The Promised Land do you know what this guy says to Joshua?

… Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite spoke: “You’ll remember what God said to Moses the man of God concerning you and me back at Kadesh Barnea. I was forty years old when Moses the servant of God sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land. And I brought back an honest and accurate report. My companions who went with me discouraged the people, but I stuck to my guns, totally with God, my God. That was the day that Moses solemnly promised, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance, you and your children’s, forever. Yes, you have lived totally for God.’ Now look at me: God has kept me alive, as he promised. It is now forty-five years since God spoke this word to Moses, years in which Israel wandered in the wilderness. And here I am today, eighty-five years old! I’m as strong as I was the day Moses sent me out. I’m as strong as ever in battle, whether coming or going. So give me this hill country that God promised me. Joshua 14:6-12

Was it God who promised?

Then hold on to your HOPE.

God’s not done with you!

Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee… So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.   Genesis 12:1, 4

GOD’S NOT DONE WITH YOU

[Intro]
O-o-o-o-o-ohh
O-o-o-o-o-ohh

[Verse 1]
Standing in your ruins feels a lot like the end
So used to losing, you’re afraid to try again
Right now all you see are ashes
Where there was a flame
The truth is that you’re not forgotten
‘Cause Grace knows your name

[Chorus 1]
God’s not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
God’s not done with you
Even when you’re lost and it’s hard and you’re falling apart
God’s not done with you
It’s not over, it’s only begun
So don’t hide, don’t run
‘Cause God’s not done with
You-ou-ou-ou-ou
You-ou-ou-ou-ou

[Verse 2]
There’s a light you don’t notice
Until you’re standing in the dark
And there’s a strength that’s growing
Inside your shattered heart
Woah-o-o-o-o-oah

[Chorus 2]
God’s not done with you
Even with your broken heart and your wounds and your scars
God’s not done with you
Even when you’re lost and it’s hard and you’re falling apart
God’s not done with you
It’s not over, it’s only begun
So don’t hide, don’t run
‘Cause God’s not done with
You-ou-ou-ou-ou
You-ou-ou-ou-ou

He’s not done with you
You-ou-ou-ou-ou
You-ou-ou-ou-ou
[Bridge]
He’s got a plan, this is part of it
He’s gonna finish what He started
He’s got a plan, this is part of it
He’s gonna finish what He started
He’s not done
God’s not done writing your story
No, He’s not done
God’s not done with you!!!
God’s not done with you

[Chorus 3]
God’s not done with you
Even when you’re lost and it’s hard and you’re falling apart
God’s not done with you
It’s not over, it’s only begun
So don’t hide, don’t run
‘Cause God’s not done with
You, You (You-ou-ou-ou-ou)
You, You (You-ou-ou-ou-ou)
You-ou-ou-ou-ou
You-ou-ou-ou-ou

[Outro]
You, You
No, He’s not done
God’s not done with you
