So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12 KJV
We are not meant to linger endlessly in our past–but, I believe, we are to learn from our mistakes. Not, to “get stuck” there–but to honestly evaluate our wrong choices, so that, “we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”
The psalmist entreats, “So teach us to number our days…”
Doesn’t that mean that we are to live open-heartedly before God, searching our hearts for truth, and error; thinking soberly of where we’ve been; seeking God’s wisdom for where He wants to take us?
Is this not so that we might gain heart wisdom?
Days with new beginnings
Frankly, I see each and every day as a new beginning.
Jeremiah in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation said,
“Yet there is one ray of hope: his compassion never ends. It is only the Lord’s mercies that have kept us from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his loving-kindness begins afresh each day.” Lamentations 3:22-24 TLB
What wonderful HOPE there is for all of us in these verses!
No matter what your past has been, or what the future may hold, we are to look to the love and grace of Jesus each morning, as He gives us a bright new day with a fresh start on one more new beginning.
Living days focused on Jesus!
That, is our primary goal as we walk out our days in this new year, yes?
Though there is a great deal of chaos around us, and we know many things in this world are not right, or as they should be.
Yet, ultimately?
We are to TRUST in the name of the Lord our God.
Isaiah encourages us,
Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. [50:10 KJV]
No matter what our present darkness may be?
What Jesus Christ has begun in us–He will bring to completion in us.
Jesus Christ is the author AND FINISHER of our faith. [Hebrews 12:2]
Thank goodness our faith doesn’t depend on us!
We are to show up, surrendering everything to the One who knows us best, and knows the right way our feet are to travel.
Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us. 1 Samuel 7:12 KJV
Ebenezer means “stone of help.”
I looked up the meaning of the word EBENEZER.
Here is what I found:
Ebenezer means “stone of help.” From then on, every time an Israelite saw the stone erected by Samuel, he would have a tangible reminder of the Lord’s power and protection. The “stone of help” marked the spot where the enemy had been routed and God’s promise to bless His repentant people had been honored.
Christ in our “days gone by” is our: Ebenezer.
Take heart all you weary ones.
Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone–He is our “stone of help.”
Great is His faithfulness!
He will get us to our finish line… and when we get there?
We will be just like Him.
We have God’s Word on it!
