City On A Hill

You are the world’s light—a city on a hill, glowing in the night for all to see.  Matthew 5:14 TLB

You are the world’s light, if you are a follower of Jesus, for your destined purpose is inextricably linked with His.

He came to bring light to this dark world.

And, that is part of your destined purpose as well.

So, how does one go about becoming a, “city on a hill,” with shining light for all the world to see Jesus?

Overthinking the Gospel

I have another confession to make to you, “I was guilty of overthinking the Gospel for years!”

(Guilty being the operative word.)

Because, I constantly felt guilty for being a Christian who didn’t have the slightest clue how to lead anyone to the truth, that Jesus is wonderful, and worthy of following.

Yep, I had two left feet when it came to evangelism. I was terribly shy with strangers. And, almost all of my friends already claimed to, “know Jesus.”

How to let your light shine

One of the main reasons I kept my light hidden was: Erroneous Thinking.

You see, I had been taught by the church I was attending that there were Spiritual gifts. (Very true.)

I even took a “Spiritual Gifts” test, because I longed to know what my gifts were.

Can you guess how I scored on Evangelism?

(Yep! Low, low, LOW… to say the least.)

Therefore, my “teachers” encouraged me to follow my strong gifts, and leave evangelism to others who were, “more qualified.”

This seemed completely logical to me.

Except for Jesus…

Because… this isn’t what Jesus teaches in the Gospels, is it?

Jesus plainly states,

We are ALL the salt of the Earth. We are all called to carry His light. We are all a city set on a hill.

Whenever I would read these verses?

You got it… I felt so guilty.

How was I supposed to do something I was clearly NOT gifted to do?

It isn’t complicated!

Truthfully, I was the one complicating everything.

Salt can’t help but be salty.

Light can’t help but shine.

Jesus never calls us to be anyone except exactly who we are.

We don’t have to be Billy Graham to let our light shine.

If I love Jesus (and I do), and I desire with all my heart to follow Him, (and I do). Then, because He loves me and leads me, and takes me as I am? He will (by His Holy Spirit) show me where, and how, to shine my “little” light.

SIMPLE is the key to: SOUL WINNING101

Ever go into a cave, turn off all other lights, and then light a match?

Such a LITTLE LIGHT can illuminate a very dark place!

Not too long ago, I was listening to another Christian author who showed us a simple prayer to lead someone to Jesus:

  • There are two kinds of people: Those who are saved and those who are about to be
  • Ask question: “Which one are you?”
  • Simple Prayer: “Father forgive my sins.”
  • “Jesus, come into my heart.”
  • “Make me the kind of person You want me to be.”
  • “Thank you for saving me.”
  • Now, ask: “Where is Jesus now?”
  • If they do not say, “In my heart.” repeat the prayer.

Could it be any simpler?

And how will anyone go and tell them unless someone sends him? That is what the Scriptures are talking about when they say, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Gospel of peace with God and bring glad tidings of good things.” In other words, how welcome are those who come preaching God’s Good News! Romans 10:15 TLB
